About the Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 ½-2 pounds lean ground beef

  • 1 egg

  • 10-15 saltine crackers, crumbled*

  • ½ salt

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon garlic

  • 1 small onion, diced (about ½ cup), or 1 tablespoon dehydrated onion

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tablespoons A-1 steak sauce

  • ¼-½ cup ketchup (to be used as glaze)

Preparation

  1. Thoroughly mix together all ingredients in a bowl, except the ketchup.

  2. Put in a bread loaf pan (8”x4”).

  3. Cook at 350°F for about 40-45 minutes, pull out and cover meatloaf with a generous amount of ketchup. Put back into oven for another 5-10 minutes. This will help to caramelize the ketchup. That is my favorite part.

  4. The meatloaf is done when the center reaches 160°F.

  5. Let rest for 10 minutes and serve hot with your favorite side dishes.

*If you can’t use saltine crackers, you can substitute with cooked white rice or uncooked rolled oats. The egg and the crackers help to bind the meatloaf together when mixed. Mix enough rice or oats in to do the same if using as a substitute.
